Trait d’union – Atelier Aquarium

October 30, 2008

There was initially a series of words: white noise, gray matter, cross-driven, off-field…  And then, posters printed in two colors (red and gold), under the presses (intaglio and typo).

Founded in 2006, the aquarium is an artistic workshop, consisting of two designers, graduates of the school of decorative arts in Strasbourg. The workshop responds to many projects command, editorials and multimedia or offers other more personal projects developed on the sidelines. Their requirement is always the same: to keep pace with the heart of the topic, get to the essence of the project while keeping the maximum field of experimentation.

krystian czaplicki aka truth

Born January 19, 1984 in Wroclaw Poland, he was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. For more then 8 years he has acted on the streets under the pseudonym Truth as urban intervention artist, painter and sculptor. In 2004 he started working on the project Truthtag. His works vary in form, style and meaning depending on the situation and circumstances. They embody a history of illegal break-ins, also of aesthetic ones. Most of Truth’s works discretely sabotage and soothe uncontrollable element of degradation and accumulation. His interventions are little cracks, laconic and poetic displacements. In the constantly changing urban view he tests citizens perceptive potential and reaction to urban landscape.
Truthtag is a multi levelled urban experiment…

“pajubookcity” – a 1000 sample books and 20 synchronized LCD monitors tell the story of this completely new city, built on reclaimed wetlands near the north-south border of south korea. located just 30 kilometers from seoul, it is a publishing cultural community. In the late 1980s, a group of communal-minded young idealists started the development of this area, which is now the home of 130 publishing companies, 57 printers and binders, and 160 housing units. they now look set to be joined there by the korean movie industry. It was a result of a time when in korea individuals more and more started pursuing their own personal desires, and neglected or became disinterested in creating common ground.
